Overview

The Associate Director, Commercial Data Operations will lead the strategy, governance, and execution of Shionogi’s commercial data assets to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant data availability for business insights. Acting as the primary liaison between external data providers (IQVIA, Symphony, Veeva, etc.) and internal stakeholders (Commercial, Market Access, Medical, Finance, IT, Analytics), this role will drive operational excellence in data acquisition, integration, quality, and delivery.

This role will help shape and advance Shionogi’s Commercial Data Management strategy, evolving infrastructure, tools, and capabilities to support current and future brands. Responsibilities include optimizing the commercial data foundation, identifying efficiencies, and ensuring systems and processes enable reliable, analytics-ready data for strategic decision-making.

The role will collaborate closely with the Director of Commercial Data Management and Directors of Insights & Analytics to maintain and enhance a strong data environment, while also partnering with Field Operations to align data requirements with CRM and field technology platforms.

As a highly visible role within Commercial Operations, the Associate Director will work across internal and external stakeholders to implement, enhance, and future-proof Shionogi’s commercial data infrastructure in support of launch readiness and long-term business success.

Responsibilities

Data Infrastructure & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily operations and long-term evolution of the commercial data warehouse, reporting platforms, and related systems in partnership with IT and vendors.
  • Translate business requirements into data warehouse architecture, reporting solutions, and system enhancements.

Data Management & Stewardship

  • Manage acquisition, intake, organization, and integration of commercial datasets (e.g., promotional activity, speaker bureau, syndicated retail/non-retail, EDI 852/867, novel and unstructured data).
  • Develop and oversee the data operations roadmap for commercial and medical data (e.g., prescription, sales, claims, specialty pharmacy, payer, roster, etc.).
  • Ensure data quality through validation, lineage documentation, and metadata management.
  • Oversee and drive master data management (MDM) processes for HCP, HCO, payer, product, and territory hierarchies.
  • Implement data monitoring and reconciliation processes to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of data delivery.
  • Partner with IT and data engineering teams to design ETL pipelines and ensure efficient integration into enterprise data warehouse (Snowflake, AWS, etc.).
  • Resolve data issues in partnership with IT and external vendors while ensuring continuity for business stakeholders.
  • Lead external vendor management, including contracts, business reviews, and daily operations.

Analytics Enablement

  • Build and maintain Analytics-Ready Data Sets (in partnership with Data Warehouse vendors) with product performance, managed care, and customer profile metrics to support self-service reporting and insights.
  • Partner with I&A and Field Operations to capture and maintain CRM and BI platform requirements.
  • Support incentive compensation by ensuring data readiness, accuracy, and adherence to quarterly timelines.
  • Deliver ad-hoc analyses to diagnose data issues and inform business decisions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders on data operations, ensuring alignment of priorities with brand, market access, and field operations leadership.

Strategic Leadership & Data Governance

  • Establish data governance standards, SOPs, and quality frameworks to ensure data integrity, compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, 21 CFR Part 11), and consistency across systems.
  • Ensure compliance with data visibility, sharing, and privacy requirements in partnership with Legal, Compliance, IT, and Finance.
  • Execute and communicate the Commercial Data Governance Model to cross-functional stakeholders; including maintenance of SOPs, data inventories, and Third-Party Agreements; promote transparency and cost efficiency through the Data Governance Model.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for infrastructure upgrades, new data sources, and process improvements; communicate implications and recommendations to leadership.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging vendors/datasets to strengthen analytics capabilities, champion continuous improvement of commercial data processes and best practices.

Minimum Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, Business, or other technical degrees; Advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience of pharmaceutical industry experience with at least five (5) years in data warehousing and analytics.
  • Three plus (3+) years of experience in SQL, Relational databases with 5+ years of experience in Data Visualization tools such as Tableau, Power B.I., etc.
  • Strong understanding of specialty and/or rare disease data and patient support services data, including experience working with specialty pharmacy (i.e., dispense, status, etc.), syndicated vendor (i.e., Claims, Rx), and patient service center data, (i.e., patient enrollment/intake, benefits investigation & verification, adherence programs).
  • Strong industry experiences practicing business function and technical capabilities in MDM, Customer Master, Consent Management, Payer Spine and Affiliation Hierarchy Management.
  • Ability to present data strategy and finding to different levels and stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system performance and service quality for technologies in commercial business applications.
  • Previous experience successfully supporting and improving data Lakehouse(s) preferred.
  • Knowledge of field operations processes (including territory management and incentive compensation) preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10-20% of the year.
  • Must live a commutable distance to our US Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ. Office presence is required at least 3 days per week.

Additional Information

 

The base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 - $190,000. Individual pay is determined by several factors, which include but are not limited to: job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The range does not include the comprehensive benefits, bonus, long-term incentive, applicable allowances, or any additional compensation that may be associated with this role
